Downloading enabled

This is the master control for all download activity in PodTrapper. If this is set to 'No' PodTrapper will not attempt to download anything over any mechanism. This can be overridden on a per-download basis via the 'Override Methods' menu item on the Download Screen.

Allow downloads over wifi

This settings allows you to specify whether PodTrapper should attempt to download over wifi if it's available. Setting it to 'Updates only' will prevent episodes but allow feed updates to be downloaded via this method.

Allow downloads through desktop (BlackBerry only)

This setting controls whether PodTrapper will attempt to download via the Desktop Downloader or via your BES via serial passthrough. Setting it to 'Updates only' will prevent episodes but allow feed updates to be downloaded via this method.

Allow downloads over cellular

This setting controls whether PodTrapper will attempt to download over the cellular network via your data plan. Note: This is only recommended for those with truly unlimited data plans. Downloading podcasts over the cell network can easily consume 10's of gigs of data. Setting it to 'Updates only' will prevent episodes but allow feed updates to be downloaded via this method.

Only download when charging

This setting tells PodTrapper to only download when its charging, that way you don't have to worry about it consuming your battery while on the go.

Min Battery Level

Determines the battery threshold that PodTrapper will cease downloading. If your battery remaining falls below this number PodTrapper will not attempt to download any more files, and will halt any downloads in progress.

Pause downloads while listening

Some phones/SD Cards/OS versions can't properly read and write to the SD card at the same time. Doing so can cause corrupt downloads or errant playback. If you notice this happening while downloading and playing back, enabling this setting will prevent downloads while you're listening to a podcast.

A note about downloading

PodTrapper prioritizes its connections in this order:

  1. Desktop
  2. Wifi
  3. Cellular

So, if you're connected to more than one enabled mechanism it will try them in that order. Note, though, that if one mechanism reports failure the next will be attempted. For example, if you are connected to a wifi access point, but that access point rejects connections to a particular server, it will then attempt to download over the cell network if that mechanism is enabled, even though you are connected to a wifi network at the time.
