What does this mean and why would I want it?

It would mean if you wanted to use the desktop downloader (update podcasts and download episodes over USB), you wouldn't need to install the desktop downloader on that computer first. It might be useful if you didn't have permission to install software on the computer you want to use to download.

Whether or not that's possible is another question. My understanding is that if it were running from the SD card, "Mass Media" mode would need to be turned on, and the BB could not access the SD card. The desktop downloader also relies on RIM's desktop manager software, which would need to be installed on the computer.

So, probably not useful for most people.

I went to implement this, but I couldn't come up with a clean way to do it since the media card would be required to be in mass storage mode. That would mean that I'd need to implement reading/writing via the usb cable back to the SD card, which isn't something I think is worth doing. If anyone has a better idea, definitely let me know...
