Automatically pause/unpause playback on Android voice operat

New postby tom.walker on Wed Feb 02, 2011 10:51 am

Android 2.2 added to it's API the capability for apps such as PodTrapper to pause playback when other Android operations temporarily output sounds, including navigation voice directions. It is currently extremely frustrating when using navigation and listening to a podcast, as the navigation voice talks over the podcast, and you miss what was said in the podcast. Notification sounds can also pause/unpause the podcast. Also, when voice input is activated, PodTrapper should temporarily pause playback so that the voice has a silenced background. Other podcast players implement this feature. Without this feature I cannot use Podtrapper -- it's just too frustrating when using voice input and navigation.

Thanks for bringing this up. I'll get this fixed ASAP. (I didn't know it was there)

Thanks -- I will surely register PT as long as this feature is added -- it's otherwise a great player. I love the the playlist versatility it provides.

Any estimate on when this feature will be available?

Thanks,
-Tom.

I just pushed HoneyDew, so I'll have a bit of a respite and try to get it done this weekend.

Is this feature (auto pause/unpause on Android sound/navigation interruptions and Voice input) available in the current Android market version or in the 3.06 Android download? Thanks, -Tom.

No, but it is in the version I have here. I'm polishing it up, fixing the last few bugs, and will be releasing it today or tomorrow.

OK -- just registered. So this new feature (auto pause/unpause on Android navigation and sound interruptions and voice input) will be available on the download page (3.0.7?)? Or should I just upgrade via the market. I purchased and downloaded form your website -- did not use the market, so can I still upgrade via market? Thanks, -Tom.

It's still in progress, right now it half works (it pauses when interrupted, but doesn't resume). I'm still tweaking it, stay tuned. (The current half-working version is 3.0.10 available on the beta page (http://ota.versatilemonkey.com/beta/)
