Freezes on Exit

Lately my PodTrapper has been freezing when I exit the app. It freezes at 90% while backing up settings to storage dir. My blackberry curve's OS is v4.5.0.186. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Hmm,

If you leave it there for several minutes does it ever complete?

It never completes. The hour glass stays for a long time, I don't know how long exactly, but once its gone, I can click on exit now while its still stuck at 90%.

I tried deleting all of the PT_T_* files from the PodTrapper folder. That didn't work.

Can you look for PT_B_* file and tell me how big they are?

Hmm. I'm not quite sure what's going on there. Is there any stack trace generated when it happens?

I don't know what stack trace is.

Is there a limit to the number of podcast subcriptions PodTrapper can manage? Ever since I've had this problem, the last few podcasts in the alphabetical list seem to be loaded twice. Its as if I just started to subscribe to them now and it has a list of all files to download, most of which I already have listened to and deleted. In some cases there are two of the same downloaded files.

Hmm, no, there shouldn't be a limit. Sometimes podcast publishers republish podcasts at a different URL, which would trick PodTrapper into thinking it's a new episode.

That link I posted should show you how to see if there's a stack trace after exiting, that's my only guess as to what may be going on for now. Alternatively, when you see it hang like that, you could grab the PT_B_2.6.7.tmp file from your SD card and email it to me. That's the file it's in the process of writing, so if I see where it stops it may give me an indication of where it's failing.

OK. Its a memory problem. My phone is running out of memory and causing PodTrapper to crash. I have a 16 gig card and lots of apps. I'll clean up phone and see how it works. I'll also send you the event log.
Thanks

Yeah, definitely getting an Out of Memory exception, but what's interesting is that A) it's happening consistently at a single point, and B), the call that it's happening on is File.open(), which isn't really doing anything memory-wise, and it's crapping out in the internal function. Another user was seeing a similar issue and deleting the existing PT_B_* files from the SD card seemed to clear it up (though I can't explain why, probably some obscure OS bug somewhere).

Can you try that?

I deleted the PT_B_* files and exited PodTrapper. It froze at 90%. I rebooted my phone, started PodTrapper again and exited it again and it froze at 90% again.

Hmmm... It said zero. I had removed a lot of PodTrapper podcasts yesterday but no apps. After I checked the File Free status of zero, I removed a lot of apps and a few other files (pics, music). I ended up with 19447666 on the File Free status. I started up PodTrapper and exited I had a temporary freeze up at 90%... It took as long as it normally does, but it did finally complete the process on its own. I didn't have hit EXIT NOW. To make sure I rebooted the phone, started PodTrapper up again. I checked the File Free status, it was 14683546 bytes. I did another exit test. There was a short delay at 90% but it did complete the process. I think the problem is solved. Thanks for your time and patience. You're app is the best. I recommend it to everyone I know with a BlackBerry.

Thanks,
David F.
