Flashlight and Just Take The Picture Issues

Flashlight and Just Take The Picture Issues

New postby EndingPop on Fri May 14, 2010 3:19 pm

I couldn't find these mentioned elsewhere on the forums, so hopefully this isn't a dupe.

When I use the flashlight feature it puts a small window at the top of the screen showing the camera output for a moment or two before disappearing. I assume this could be a requirement that to enable the flash you have to turn the camera on for a bit first. I wasn't able to get a screenshot of this after several attempts. I can try some more if it's not a known issue.

The other issue is when I take a picture using Just Take The Picture the screen messes up right after the picture is taken. The image that is captured is displayed at the top, twice, and vertically squished. The whole screen looks like this until I hit a button. Screenshots below (before and after).

Hi there,

Thanks for the reports!

For the first one, this is indeed an artifact of how I have to start the camera flash. I've worked to minimize it, but right now it's displayed for the shortest time possible that will work on the majority of devices.

For the screen corruption, this is also an artifact of taking pictures over the top of the lock screen. I think I have a solution for it, though, so stay tuned.

On the screen corruption issue, this happens when taking a picture while unlocked. It doesn't work for me while locked at all.

:/ Does it take the picture right after you unlock, then?

Nope, it doesn't do it at all. I tried pressing random buttons until the screen comes up with the locked message, and then doing the conv key assigned to it and it still doesn't seem to work.

I blame BB OS 5, ever since I upgraded a whole bunch of stuff doesn't work properly. Apparently I gave up the ability to click on links in the browser and Quickpull working right for threaded views of SMS messages. Whoopie.

So I suppose this isn't working as you intend. Any logs or anything you need me to send?

No, I'll see if I can upgrade one of the CDMA devices I have here to that version and see what I can find. Thanks for letting me know...

Here's a "isn't that interesting?" note - my BlackBerry is supplied by my company, which has a "secure environment" - no cameras allowed. If I try to use the BB camera with the normal software I get a message that "Camera has been disabled by your enterprise administrator."

EXCEPT that "Just Take the Picture" actually takes the picture. With the same artifact issue mentioned above - but having the ability to take the picture is useful nevertheless.

So does your phone have a camera and it is disabled or is the camera physically not there? I ask because there is a version of the Blackberry Tour that has no camera.

If it's the former case, VT seems to be a security breach.

Heh, nice that they only enforce it on their app. Good to know, thanks for posting about it.
